Summary of art events

Event 1. 9/28/06- I went by suprise to a photo screening/lecture by a SF times photographer named Gai by the metreon. Gai spoke about his time following the newly elected govenor around for the publication he works for. The images range from official, which were typically the style of those in the paper, and then much more gallery worthy shots of Arnold smoking big cuban cigars, aids looking fatigued, and rabid supporters/detractors. The information given about the life of a traveling photojournalist made me never want to be in that profession though those in attendance in at the podium seemed to talk of the many hard details of the job with affection. I really liked the images of the clean up crews after big speeches and the closeups of the Terminator ring on Arnold's finger.

Event 2. MOMA 9/3/06 I went to go see Matthew Barney's Drawing Restraint exhibit. I was suprised by the concept of building muscle tissue through restraint as applied to imagery in his show. I was really impressed by the decor, the environment he creates even within a white studio space is very enveloping. There was wax poured all over the floor forming semen like floods. There were images caught from the film as well as a loop from a particular section of the film playing in a main room. My favourite room of this exhibit was one in which video played of Barney wrestling another man dressed as a very strong goat man.

Event 3. MOMA 10/13/06 During this visit I saw something that has been driving me to investigate lcd panels in relation to moving photos- a shot where everyone in the frame holds absolutely still but smoke still floats and light dances on the subjects.... I thought it was brilliant. I was rushed because I had a short time to show my parents around this time so I missed the name of the artist which I would really like to have. We discussed it in class a few times so I am sure someone can help me out. I also saw a painting in the permanant collection where an artist commissioned a work which he then completely erased and posted as his own... again, brilliant.

Intervention assignment

Where is David Bradbury Haning:

The address of the myspace for David I made is: http://myspace.com/whereisdavidbradburyhaning

I did a social intervention project with the intention of uniting a community of those who follow the postings of a San Francisco man named David Bradbury Haning. He is presumed to be schizophrenic and walking on foot to Idaho right now. I posted flyers on telephone poles, that were configured similarly to his, hoping to catch the eye of those who read his rants. On these flyers there is information on how to email me and to get to the myspace page to help tell his story. I plan on being the manager of the site and will post whatever text, audio or video people send.
